About Us

Many people have a great interest in experiencing other cultures and lifestyles, but have difficulty finding a way to live and work overseas temporarily without joining an organization like the Peacecorps.  Tanzania has a great need for expertise that westerners can provide, and there are many organizations that can host volunteers willing to gain valuable experience living and working in Tanzania.

The purpose of this page is to provide links organizations that can provide information to potential volunteers.  Contact one of these organizations directly for specific information about their projects:

What to expect:

Volunteers a do not get paid and must provide their own funds for living expenses.  Fortunately, Tanzania is very inexpensive, and you can live quite comfortably on a couple hundred dollars per month.  Volunteers usually like to live in homestays as part of a local family's household.  These living arrangements range from plush to basic depending upon your host family.

Your organization should easily be able to arrange a homestay directly.  The sponsoring organization should also arrange for an orientation to the culture and logistics of life in Tanzania.  In many cases you will be based in Arusha, which is a thriving cosmopolitan town with a large number of international residents.  The town has coffee shops, internet cafes, international hotels, a wide variety of European restaurants and lots of young travelers and students.  For most volunteers, the hardest part is returning home after an experience of a lifetime.

Feel free to contact Ann Elizabeth Warlick for information about her experiences as a volunteer in Tanzania.
