Anyone can make a web page -- why hire a professional?
Creating a web site can seem deceptively simple.
But a commercial web site is a virtual online storefront for
a company and the impression it makes can have a serious
effect on the way clients view that company.
Seemingly small items like misspelled words, poor
punctuation and grammatical errors can have a very negative effect.
Web pages which download slowly or which have broken links in them
are also an irritation to potential clients, as well as pages which
contain extraneous animations or graphics.
The use of no-content splash pages and other
poor design factors increase click-through rates and are a great
annoyance.
Even sites which do not have these particular flaws can
lack a professional appearance due to things like excessive
variation in font sizes and colors, badly placed text, graphics
or headers which take up too large a percentage of the page,
pages which require excessive vertical scrolling or any
horizontal scrolling, etc.
Another important issue is that of cross-browser and cross-platform
compatibility. A web page that looks good on one computer
may look terrible on another, or worse, fail
to function properly. We are careful to test our sites on
as many platforms as possible prior to release.
Clearly a web site which requires complex forms, server-side programming
or database support will require more skill to produce than a simple static
site. But even the simplest site can be improved when good design
principles are followed. The software developers at
NewlightSoftware.com have experience in
custom software and web design and are dedicated to applying the
latest research and technologies to the design process.
